The Yakuza (1974)
Country: US/JAP
Technical: col/2.39:1 107m
Director: Sydney Pollack
Cast: Robert Mitchum, Takakura Ken, Brian Keith
Synopsis:
A private eye returns to Japan after a number of years to help his friend, whose daughter has been kidnapped by the Yakuza.
Review:
Robert Towne and the Schrader brothers worked on the script of this Warners thriller, which was presumably intended to cash in on the fascination for the Orient aroused by the Bruce Lee movies. In fact there is very little chop-socky action, but there is some attempt to get to grips with Japanese (underworld) culture.
