X-Men (2000)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: DeLuxe/Panavision 104m
Director: Bryan Singer
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Bruce Davison

Synopsis:

In the not too distant future, humans with special powers, known as mutants, have divided into those who seek reconciliation with mankind's natural fear and suspicion, and those whose solution is to take over.

Review:

Refreshing to find a comic strip film which begins in a Nazi death camp and draws parallels between the fictional intolerance depicted elsewhere in the film, and other racially or sexually driven ones. It also has a goodie and baddie who are essentially after the same things by different means, which gives pause for thought. Finally it does not have one all-powerful superhero but rather illustrates the benefits of teamwork between people with diverse skills. All these things were presumably in the original, in which case all credit to Singer and his collaborators for preserving them.
