Wrong Turn at Tahoe (2009)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 91m
Director: Franck Khalfoun
Cast: Cuba Gooding Jr., Miguel Ferrer, Harvey Keitel, Alex Meneses, Michael Sean Tighe
Synopsis:
A crime boss's loyal lieutenant attempts to shield him from the consequences of setting too much store by the admonishments of one of his dealer-users.
Review:
Honour among thieves again. Beneath its self-conscious Tarantino homage (mobsters playing Scrabble and watching Gunfight at the OK Corral, I ask you), this is a thoughtful meditation on the thesis that there are all kinds of cold-blooded killer. The interesting ones here are pseudo-father and son, Vincent and Joshua. The former, highly principled, is given to immoderate outbursts when not accorded the honesty and respect he demands; the latter, steadfast and disciplined, is flawed by a misplaced loyalty to his father's killer. Whether you want to spend an hour and a half sloshing around with pond life is another matter, but this is finely tooled mobster entertainment in the company of two acting heavyweights, one of them sadly missed.
