Wind Across the Everglades (1958)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 93m
Director: Nicholas Ray
Cast: Christopher Plummer, Burl Ives, Gypsy Rose Lee

Synopsis:

A ranger tries to protect the birdlife and trees of the South Florida everglades against their exploitation by men.

Review:

A fascinating piece for all sorts of reasons: for being so seldom seen, for providing an early view of Plummer, an actor we could always have done with more of, for adding yet another to Burl Ives's sizeable gallery of self-made mavericks, and for its unique flavour, a mixture of brutality, lyricism and above all sincerity. By all accounts the shoot was not without difficulties, with Ray's drinking a problem and the humidity playing havoc with the equipment, but for all that the colour photography is impressive.
