Originally released in a compromised version by the production company, the film reappeared in 2000 in a restored 'director's cut' (Cammell died in 1996). This reinstated much of the non-linear Roegian cutting which had been considered uncommercial. The movie is now a sexy, demented thriller of the greedy and the exploited, with extraordinary risk-taking performances from its cast.
