Country: US/GB
Technical: col/2.39:1 129m
Director: Steve McQueen
Cast: Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya

Synopsis:

Four Chicago wives, widowed in a heist that goes horribly wrong, resort to grand larceny to repay the money their husbands had stolen. But how is it all linked to the campaign for re-election by the ward's mayor?

Review:

Based on a book by Linda La Plante, McQueen's first genre pic is bracingly well told and keeps you guessing well into its running time before letting the audience in on the deal. Finding time to get to know its characters, and deploying some telling gender politics, it does not drag, despite a substantial running time. A rare crime thriller that is also a piece of drama.
