Who You Think I Am (2019)

£0.00

(Celle que vous croyez)

Country: FR/BEL
Technical: col/2.35:1 101m
Director: Safy Nebbou
Cast: Juliette Binoche, Nicole Garcia, François Civil, Charles Berling

Synopsis:

A divorced university professor who has taken to dating younger men, and is hurt when one of them dumps her, sets up a fictional social media page to attract his flatmate from a position of relative security. However, she has no game plan and the affair rapidly spirals out of her control.

Review:

It is to the two actresses' credit, and the delicacy of the writing, that this does not get silly or melodramatic. The way in which it deals with the inevitable question: 'Where can this be going?' is clever and only slightly disingenuous. It is a pity that the relationship with the psychiatrist is not more developed, but then she is the rare movie shrink who retains some professional self-control. The film making throughout is adept at mining the internet's omnipresent hold over our lives, and Binoche gives a typically brave and radiant performance as the woman with the Canute complex who simply refuses to be abandoned.
