White Christmas (1954)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: Technicolor 120m
Director: Michael Curtiz
Cast: Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera-Ellen, Rosemary Clooney, Dean Jagger

Synopsis:

A pair of entertainers chase a sister act up to Vermont and discover their former general is now managing a ski lodge that has hit hard times, not helped by a singular lack of snow in time for Christmas.

Review:

Paramount's VistaVision musical is a stodgy affair, showcasing some fine Irving Berlin numbers and dance acts in gorgeous Technicolor, but with a sentimental set-up and some creaky script mechanics, not to mention some sloppy continuity editing. Crosby and Kaye carry on for much of the picture like a pair of bickering queens, and the masculine Clooney and painfully anorexic Vera-Ellen make up a singularly mismatched star foursome. Never mind, it has become one of those perennial Christmas movies, and a heartfelt flag-waver for out of date generals.
