Country: US
Technical: bw 90m
Director: Richard Thorpe
Cast: Hedy Lamarr, Walter Pidgeon, Richard Carlson

Synopsis:

A rubber plantation superintendent in the Congo defends his suzerainty against the claims of a younger manager sent from England, the charms of a local half-caste girl being the prize.

Review:

The plantation movie to end all plantation movies, like one of those Goodies/Python send-ups. 'Blasted hot, today!' laments one perspiring character, as he mops his brow. The histrionics are spiced up by the sultry Miss Lamarr's antics, all skin dye and split skirts. The tone changes rather abruptly at the end from high melodrama, as Tondelayo is forced to take her own medicine, to near self-mockery with the arrival of the new assistant.
