Wall Street (1987)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 124m
Director: Oliver Stone
Cast: Charlie Sheen, Michael Douglas, Martin Sheen

Synopsis:

A Faustian morality tale set in the American capital of stock buying and selling: a young broker is taken under the wing of a Mephistophelian asset stripper, and his loyalties are divided when his father's company comes under fire.

Review:

The world sent up so effectively in Trading Places is here breathlessly caught by Stone's roving camera as the limited horizon of so many who worship at the altar of Mammon, or, put another way, who know the price of everything but the value of nothing. Gordon Gekko (Douglas) is a brilliant creation and he dominates the film, which is nevertheless peopled with other great actors, not least Hal Holbrook as an old broker, forever coming out with obscure barbs of wisdom but lacking the fibre to do what he should about things.
