Walk on the Wild Side (1962)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 114m
Director: Edward Dmytryk
Cast: Jane Fonda, Capucine, Barbara Stanwyck, Jane Fonda, Anne Baxter

Synopsis:

A drifter arrives in New Orleans and walks into a bordello where his former love now works. Tensions mount, as she does not want to relinquish a comfortable lifestyle that allows her to pursue her sculpture. Meanwhile, the drifter's travelling companion has also found employment at the 'Doll House'.

Review:

A disaster with many points of interest, most of all the 'black cat walking' title sequence by Saul Bass, and the sight of Hollywood 'grandes dames' playing prostitutes and/or lesbians. Ultimately, though, it is the coy handling of the risqué subject matter, and the casting of Harvey, that kill it.
