Waitress (2007)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 108m
Director: Adrienne Shelly
Cast: Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Cheryl Hines, Adrienne Shelly

Synopsis:

In a hick town a waitress at a diner with a genius for making pies falls pregnant by her unloved husband and falls in love with her new doctor.

Review:

A witty little comedy about feminine self-determination, combined with the numen of a dozen or so magic-realist films about the power of food. Its familiar elements are more than compensated for by the sincerity of the lead performance and heartfelt script. Poignantly the director was killed in an absurd altercation with a construction worker before the film premiered at Sundance, and the film enshrines her own misgivings over becoming a mother, with her baby daughter playing one of the young Lulus at the end. The gem of the film is Andy Griffiths's performance as old Joe.
