Fellini's first solo project is a satirical comedy based around a fictional movie star and his fellow artistes, a cross between Rudolph Valentino and a circus troupe. The naïveté of the country folk visiting Rome, and the corruption of the city itself, would be themes to which he would return, though both are dealt with lightly and affectionately here.
