The War Wagon (1967)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 101m
Director: Burt Kennedy
Cast: John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Howard Keel, Bruce Cabot

Synopsis:

A wronged man returns from prison to reclaim the land and gold that is rightfully his. To do so he must devise a plan to rob his enemy's armoured wagon by recruiting the man who shot him, and by using dangerously unstable nitroglycerine.

Review:

Once you have overlooked the various inconsistencies in this story idea, this is a spectacular Western of the Sixties 'high-concept' variety (cf. Mackenna's Gold). The producers know we are there for the wagon, and what an impressive piece of kit it is. Keel provides comic relief as an Indian!
