The World Is Yours (2018)

(Le monde est à toi)

Country: FR
Technical: col/2.35:1 102m
Director: Romain Gavras
Cast: Karim Leklou, Isabelle Adjani, Vincent Cassel, Oulaya Amamra, François Damiens

Synopsis:

A smalltime drug dealer dreams of starting a popsicle business in North Africa, but cannot find the capital. Since his equally crooked but rich mother will not come to his aid, he must take on a doubtful job on the Costa Brava to raise the cash.

Review:

The title is a reference, of course, to Scarface (or La Haine), and points to the moral that even this loser, with sufficient ingenuity, determination and solid support from those around him, can realize the kind of life he wants for himself - and get the girl. Nothing much new here, then, and the scenario recalls many a gangland crime thriller from Lock, Stock... to Layer Cake and beyond, but it is delivered with suitably Gallic earthiness and humour.
