The Warrior's Way (2010)

£0.00

Country: NZ/KOR
Technical: col/2.35:1 100m
Director: Sngmoo Lee
Cast: Dong-gun Jang, Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush, Danny Huston

Synopsis:

A master swordsman journeys from China to South Dakota with the last remaining offspring of a clan he is supposed to have annihilated, pursued by his tutor and an avenging horde of crow-like clansmen. There he sheathes his sword and takes over the Chinese laundry in what appears to be a collapsed circus town, nurtured by the local knife-thrower, who has a tale of woe and vengeance of her own to tell.

Review:

Digitally tweaked to within an inch of its life, this 'oriental western' is as drained of blood as any of the corpses that litter its faux-real landscapes. Cursed with a hero who is by definition invincible, and a heroine who has already survived a fatal gunshot wound, the narrative is deprived of any tension or danger, and characterization is as token as the generic formula suggests. Rango would do much the same things with a deal more wit and charm.
