The Warriors (1979)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 94m
Director: Walter Hill
Cast: Michael Beck, James Remar, Thomas Waites

Synopsis:

New York gangs meet under truce to hear the voice of the multilaterally respected Cyrus, who wishes to put an end to warfare. However, when he is assassinated by another gang, and the Warriors framed, they must make their way across hostile territory to their home in Queens.

Review:

Borrowed from the ancient Greek text of the Athenian Expedition, this successful urban thriller is full of relics of blaxploitation such as the (interminable) 'Can you dig it?' speech and the black deejay bridging device. Essentially, though, it is a Western from a director who would dearly love to make Westerns but who was commercially savvy enough to give seventies audiences what they wanted: pacy, violent action.
