Vivement Dimanche! (1983)

£0.00

(Finally, Sunday)

Country: FR
Technical: bw 111m
Director: François Truffaut
Cast: Fanny Ardant, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Philippe Laudenbach

Synopsis:

A Varois estate agent is suspected of murdering his wife and her lover, and his downtrodden secretary attempts to find indications as to the true culprit while he hides from the police.

Review:

The director's last film, and one of his periodic flirtations with Série Noire, is an entertaining comedy thriller that at times recalls the Hitchcock of To Catch a Thief and Rear Window, though much more often his compatriot Chabrol. Miss Ardant carries it off beautifully as a cross between Grace Kelly and Katharine Hepburn, breezy and impudent, and Nestor Almendros's black and white cinematography looks a treat. Truffaut nonchalantly negotiates the liberties taken with verisimilitude, and, with the exception of one mismatched edit, delivers expert framing and mise en scène.
