Vampyr (1932)
Country: GER/FR
Technical: bw 75m
Director: Carl Dreyer
Cast: Julian West, Sybille Schmitz, Maurice Schutz
Synopsis:
A wayfarer happens upon a community smitten with a vampiric curse, and is instrumental in liberating one of the village girls who has been bitten.
Review:
Truly eerie cinema of the moment, never allowing clarity or continuity get in the way of a disorienting effect. Technically it is far more dexterous in combining the merits of silent cinema with the possibilities of the new sound (music is a constant, dialogue is kept to a minimum) than the same year's Dracula.
