More is made of the plan by which the coup was to be effected in Berlin than in earlier treatments, a plan which gives the film its title. The main problem is that despite initial gestures towards the German language this remains an Anglo-American effort, with a roster of British supporting actors and an American star in the lead - it might as well be Elliot Ness toppling Al Capone at times. The film stands or falls on one's ability to swallow this kind of handling at this stage of the game, after films like Downfall have laid claim to Germany's right to tell its own stories.
