Les visiteurs du soir (1942)

£0.00

Country: FR
Technical: bw 110m
Director: Marcel Carné
Cast: Arletty, Jules Berry, Marie Déa, Alain Cuny

Synopsis:

In medieval France, the devil sends two emissaries to seduce and confound humans but one of them falls for his victim because of her chastity.

Review:

The victims are of course nobility (there would be no point in trapping peasants with courtly love), and one could be forgiven for seeing the Devil as Nazism and Anne as the unbowed spirit of France, in which case Prévert and Laroche are to be congratulated on smuggling this piece of propaganda past their censors. The fact remains that it is something of a chore for the modern viewer.
