Country: FR
Technical: col 107m
Director: Jean-Marie Poiré
Cast: Jean Reno, Christian Clavier, Valerie Lemercier

Synopsis:

An eleventh century knight and his vassal, in an attempt to go back into the past and repair a fatal mistake, drink an imperfect potion thanks to the druid's carelessness, and are propelled into the twentieth century.

Review:

A time-travel comedy along Back to the Future lines, this time exploiting the effects of modernity on mediaeval characters and the linguistic drollery of their 'vieux françois'. A 'succès fou' in France, it appealed to Anglo-American audiences by virtue of its Python/Blackadder reminiscences. Fast (average shot length about one second), broad and loud comedy in the popular French manner, and for all its cheerful vulgarity possessing a strongly conservative streak: family lineage is treated with sacred reverence, the revolution with contempt, and there are pot shots at the nouveau riche, homosexuals and the homeless.
