Review:
Easy-going, sumptuously filmed and cast, case history of a compulsion, not dissimilar to Truffaut's L'Homme Qui Aimait les Femmes later, and with nearly as many women. Some deliciously ironic touches, as the abbé's rueful: 'Aux enfers la mort n'est pas une excuse.' Not a happy experience for its director, however, who turned to making documentaries in India for a time.
