A Voice in the Night (1946)
(Wanted for Murder)
Country: GB
Technical: bw 101m
Director: Lawrence Huntington
Cast: Eric Portman, Dulcie Gray, Derek Farr, Roland Culver, Stanley Holloway
Synopsis:
A compulsive strangler of young women targets one he cares about: can he withstand the impulse enough to let her escape?
Review:
One might almost think of the Hitchcock of Frenzy and Shadow of a Doubt, with Portman's gentlemanly killer whose father was a Victorian hangman (hardly seems likely!), were it not for the strong role played by the police (great supporting cast here). A competent suspenser with views of post-war London, part-written by Emeric Pressburger.
