Unstoppable (2010)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 98m
Director: Tony Scott
Cast: Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson

Synopsis:

Pennsylvania: a train loaded with hazardous and inflammable materials finds itself unmanned and gaining speed towards a 15mph curve in the midst of a built-up area. On another train, an engineer and young conductor are the only things between it and a catastrophic derailment.

Review:

Old-fashioned B-movie suspenser with newfangled production values and real trains: the barest of backstories are sketched in for the lead characters for the sake of human interest, while the actors do the rest on sheer charisma, and Scott takes the action at a lick. It's an engrossing effort for his last feature film, abetted by the location work and feeling of smallscale community stakes, including the fates of prematurely retired railmen with much still to offer. Only the pseudo-ciné vérité whip pans and zoomed 'jump-cuts' appear as tell-tale Scott tics in the mise-en-scène.
