United 93 (2006)

£0.00

Country: US/GB/FR
Technical: DeLuxe/Super 35 111m
Director: Paul Greengrass
Cast: Mixture of professional and non-professional, some actually involved in the events of 2001

Synopsis:

The events of 9th September 2001 are re-enacted from the points of view of the bombers on the fourth airliner, the other passengers and crew, and the various air traffic controllers involved. The failure of the terrorists to reach their target was, it seems, due to a mixture of factors: their own prevarication and hotheadedness, the bravery of the passengers, and the fact that they were fourth (passengers learnt of the fate of the other planes via cell phone).

Review:

However untrue to life, the shaky, multiple viewpoint drama-documentary shooting style again comes up trumps and from the word go lends the film an edginess it would not otherwise have had. Never was it more the case that knowledge of outcome does not necessarily hinder the propagation of tension from the screen. The screenplay was thoroughly researched, uses some of the actual professionals involved on the day, and is even-handed in the treatment of the parties (the opening scene is with the terrorists).
