Ulysses (1967)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw/scope 132m
Director: Joseph Strick
Cast: Maurice Roeves, Milo O'Shea, Barbara Jefford

Synopsis:

Leopold Bloom treks around Dublin in search of his wife, a foulmouthed Penelope who closes the film with a twenty-minute monologue on, well, everything really.

Review:

Doomed filming of a self-consciously wordy novel, which contrives to translate some of the allusiveness into film terms, but in so doing perhaps strikes the wrong note at times. The accents can be impenetrable, and there is a surplus of voiceover, but this is a heroic attempt to encompass a massive book, with some compensations.
