In this oddball thriller, part of the Cannon (Golan-Globus) arthouse spree that also encompassed Zeffirelli and Godard, Mailer strains after the mood of film noir, and desperately throws flashbacks, femmes fatales, psychotics, drugs and a hungover narrating antihero into the mix.
