Tobruk (1967)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: Techniscope 110m
Director: Arthur Hiller
Cast: Rock Hudson, George Peppard, Nigel Green, Guy Stockwell

Synopsis:

A Canadian specialist reluctantly helps British Commandos and German Jews dressed as Africa Korps to sabotage Rommel's fuel dump at Tobruk.

Review:

Handsomely produced war actioner showing signs of the MacLean influence. As usual the 'American' (Hudson) is the anti-hero who nevertheless pulls out the right stuff in the end and the British (Green) is the ruthless 'get-the-job-done' soldier. Watchable and with good performances, though with rather too many conscience-searching exchanges between Hudson and Peppard (proto-Zionist zealot) and the inevitable pair of Irish and Cockney proles from the ranks.
