(Secret of the Wings)

Country: US
Technical: col 75m
Director: Peggy Holmes, Roberts Gannaway
Cast: Voice cast: Timothy Dalton, Mae Whitman, Anjelica Huston, Lucy Liu

Synopsis:

A fairy worker from the land of summer has a hankering to explore the forbidden territory of winter across the border, and discovers she has an identical twin sister. Their determination to be together, however, could have consequences more serious than either domain can withstand.

Review:

Expertly animated and with an appealing wintry landscape, which is more than can be said for the rather treacly summer, this addition to the Disney TinkerBell series misses an opportunity for a global warming subtext by having its heroine indirectly responsible for a 'global big freeze'. Still, the moral about fragile balance is there for anyone looking for it, though it is unlikely they will be since this is strictly for the under-tens, and harmless, low-peril stuff at that. There are some twee gags involving a sick bay and a library, but the overwhelmingly wholesome, American accented fairy babes cannot help but bring to mind much of the same company's televisual diet aimed at teen audiences of girls, not to mention the rather pronounced 'tush' of the 'Miss Southern State' redheaded fairy.
