A Time for Killing (1967)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 88m
Director: Phil Karlson, Roger Corman (uncredited)
Cast: Glenn Ford, Inger Stevens, George Hamilton, Harry Dean Stanton, Todd Armstrong, Timothy Carey
Synopsis:
In the dying days of the Civil War, a humane Union officer gives chase following a Rebel prisoner breakout near the Mexican border, in the knowledge that his wife and her escort also lie in their path.
Review:
Unpleasant western in muddy colour, which aggravates its casual violence through a trivialising upbeat musical score and a pair of no-hopers put in as light relief. Hamilton, brooding through proceedings, is the Reb who just won't forget, Ford the Major who holds out the olive branch, and just wants to get back to farming with his missionary wife, but cannot face her once Hamilton has had her. Stevens, meanwhile, who suffers such indignities as a spur across her back, at least emerges with her acting honour unscathed.
