A Time to Kill (1996)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 149m
Director: Joel Schumacher
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson
Synopsis:
A black construction worker murders the two rednecks who raped his twelve year-old girl and left her for dead. A young local lawyer takes up the case with the aid of a bright and liberal rich girl, despite the risk to life and limb from klansmen.
Review:
Tabloid, feverish crowd-pleaser, the most transparent exposé of America's lynch mob mentality, ironically since it curries the same emotions it seeks to condemn. It does grip, however, for much of its considerable length and contains some good acting from among an over-starry cast. Its huge commercial success stateside speaks for itself.
