The Running Man (1987)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 101m
Director: Paul Michael Glaser
Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonzo, Yaphet Kotto

Synopsis:

A wrongly convicted cop is coerced into participating in a lethally gladiatorial TV game show in commutation of his sentence.

Review:

Following in the footsteps of Robocop, in 'satirising' television's indulgence of our baser instincts by indulging them even further, this also goes where Rollerball went before and Battle Royale would in the future. As an Arnie vehicle, first and foremost, it is more fun than Predator but less self-parodying than Commando. The supposedly mismatched opponents in combat he of course bests with little difficulty - as does Miss Alonso in one instance - and the manicheistic plot keeps satire at bay.
