(Vozvrashcheniye)

Country: RUS
Technical: col 105m
Director: Andrei Zvyagintsev
Cast: Vladimir Garin, Ivan Dobronravov, Konstantin Lavronenko

Synopsis:

A father returns after a twelve year absence to his wife and two sons. Almost immediately he sets off on a trip with the boys, to bond and wipe away the years. What he appears to be about, however, is turning them into men, and to the younger one who does not remember him he becomes an increasingly threatening, sinister presence.

Review:

Disquietingly unresolved and eerily shot in blue greys, this first feature is brilliantly acted by its trio of males, keeps one constantly guessing and achieves scenes of astonishing beauty reminiscent of Tarkovsky.
