The Raid (1954)
Country: US
Technical: col 83m
Director: Hugo Fregonese
Cast: Van Heflin, Anne Bancroft, Richard Boone
Synopsis:
In preparation for a raid inside Union territory, a Confederate officer settles into the town and even forms an attachment to a local woman. However, preparations concluded, he must unpack his uniform and bring his well-laid plans to fruition despite his sentimental misgivings.
Review:
Extremely fine Western suspenser, tightly wrought and memorably mounted, with everything hinging on a small bridge over which the soldiers must cross to safety. One of a number of Hollywood films beginning with Gone with the Wind that characterised the Reb soldier as a romantic figure for audiences to root for.
