Rose (2022)
Country: DK
Technical: col/2.35:1 106m
Director: Niels Arden Oplev
Cast: Sofie Gråbøl, Lene Maria Christensen, Anders W. Berthelsen, Søren Malling
Synopsis:
A woman suffering from schizophrenia is taken by her sister and brother-in-law on a coach trip to Paris, where she spent time as a teenager, and lived a love affair that marked her for life.
Review:
The focus of Oplev's film, which is informed by his own experiences with mental health in the family, is dually the relationship of the two sisters, emerging stronger than ever from the experience/ordeal of the trip, and how the other passengers react to Inger. It is beautifully shot and acted, and the script carries just the right amount of humour to offset the pain, though there is perhaps one nod too many in the direction of Rain Man (1988).
