Regeneration (1997)

£0.00

Country: GB/CAN
Technical: col 110m
Director: Gillies MacKinnon
Cast: Jonathan Pryce, James Wilby, Jonny Lee Miller

Synopsis:

The strain begins to tell when an officer psychiatrist in charge of an Edinburgh hospital for the mentally battle-scarred is given the job of persuading Siegfried Sassoon to drop his anti-war protest and at the same time treats a working-class lieutenant for mutism.

Review:

Sensitively filmed examination of the paradoxes involved in fighting or not fighting, in which a potentially distracting 'poet's corner' of Owen and Sassoon is used to adumbrate the grim remembrances of the trenches. Well-acted all round, it is distinguished by a moving central performance.
