Red Rocket (2021)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.39:1 130m
Director: Sean Baker
Cast: Simon Rex, Bree Elrod, Suzanna Son
Synopsis:
Mikey Saber, a washed up porn star on the lam, returns to his home town of Galveston, TX, bribing his way into the confidence of his ex and mother-in-law by selling weed for an old acquaintance. His attention caught by the redhead at the local donut bar, he begins to hatch a plan to get back in the big time.
Review:
The director brings us another foray into the parallel economy of U.S. trailer trash, this time indulgently long. Rex's is a powerhouse performance, for sure, but there is insufficient meat on these bones, and the 'bad boy wins' outcome raises questions as well as a smile.
