Country: US
Technical: col 152m
Director: Taylor Hackford
Cast: Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Regina King

Synopsis:

Blind at seven, Ray Charles Robinson rises above his humble Florida roots to become a star of rhythm, blues and gospel during the Fifties, but has his own demons to lay before he can leave his womanising and heroin days behind.

Review:

A biopic of Ray Charles that takes us from around 1948 to 1964 and offers fascinating insights into the nature of the music business back then, as well as some superb recreations of the Charles magic and spontaneity. Similar in a striking number of respects to the same year's Fox production Walk the Line, it is perhaps less satisfying as drama but has a no less compelling incarnation at its centre, arguably more of an impersonation.
