Raining Stones (1993)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col 91m
Director: Ken Loach
Cast: Bruce Jones, Julie Brown, Gemma Phoenix, Ricky Tomlinson

Synopsis:

A working man's determination that his daughter shall have a brand-new dress for her Confirmation puts his financial security, and ultimately his family's welfare, at stake.

Review:

One is not quite sure what Loach is about here; whether that everyone ought to have a lovely confirmation dress even if they can't afford it, or that the working classes are in the pickle they're in precisely because they cannot live according to their means (doubtful), or again that loan sharks are the bane of the capitalist system and would never exist in a socialist utopia (probable). Anyhow, the drama is pretty well sustained and acted.
