The Quiet Man (1952)
Country: US
Technical: col 129m
Director: John Ford
Cast: John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Barry Fitzgerald, Victor McLaglen
Synopsis:
An American boxer retires and returns to his Irish homeland, falling for a feisty redhead, but having to conquer the opposition of her hotheaded brother.
Review:
An extremely leisurely stroll through the director's national heritage: we get green fields and cottages, a horserace on the sands, rain and thunder, and a fistfight that takes in - and takes out - much of the neighbourhood. Fortunately it is all bursting with personality, not to mention Hollywood's entire ex-pat community, and remains a much-loved entertainment.
