Technical: col 101m
Director: Jasmila Zbanic
Cast: Jasna Djuricic, Izudin Bajrovic, Johan Heldenbergh, Raymond Thiry, Boris Isakovic

Synopsis:

July, 1995: as the Serb forces move relentlessly in on Srebrenica, UN peacekeepers find themselves outmanoeuvred and abandoned by their chain of command, and an interpreter frantically struggles to ensure that her husband and two sons are spared the likely massacre.

Review:

Shot and acted in a documentary style now familiar from the work of Paul Greengrass, this extraordinary co-production appeared as if, twenty-five years on, the European community of nations were getting together to pay tribute (and say 'sorry'). Nail-biting suspense alternates with quieter moments of reflection and the epilogue, in which our protagonist goes to reclaim her apartment, and directs a school performance in the same gymnasium where her loved ones were murdered, potentially under the very gaze of one of those responsible, itself speaks volumes both about the still open wounds and the need to move on.
