(When the Sea Rises)

Country: BEL/FR
Technical: col 93m
Director: Yolande Moreau, Gilles Porte
Cast: Yolande Moreau, Wim Willaert, Olivier Gourmet

Synopsis:

An actress touring her masked, one-woman show around the towns of the Pas de Calais meets a single man who stores and carries the giant guignols for the local festival. Returning to see her performance, he gradually becomes part of the act, as she selects a random male from the audience to be her 'darling'.

Review:

Slight but touching drama about two souls making contact in spite of the pressures of home life and a transient existence. Testimony to the warmth of the region's inhabitants, whatever their climate, it is also doubtful proof of their openness to unconventional forms of theatre!
