The Prowler (1951)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 92m
Director: Joseph Losey
Cast: Van Heflin, Evelyn Keyes, John Maxwell

Synopsis:

A woman reports a prowler, but when the duty officer comes to investigate there is instant attraction, and together the two conspire to be rid of the husband.

Review:

A film which itself sets sparks flying with the Production Code, both for its unwholesome plot and the lurid poster of Miss Keyes showing all of her leg through a split in her skirt. The imputation of conjugal perfidy and corruptible lawman was too much. Fortunately it was an independent production outfit and they didn't care. Dalton Trumbo wrote the script under a pseudonym, and Losey was soon off to England. So much for the background, what of the film? It's an acceptable noir thriller with the familiar Double Indemnity setup, and the script has one or two unexpected tricks up its sleeve.
