The Prize (1963)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 135m
Director: Mark Robson
Cast: Paul Newman, Elke Sommer, Edward G. Robinson, Diane Baker, Kevin McCarthy, Leo G. Carroll
Synopsis:
The Nobel prizewinners converge on Stockholm, and the American, a writer, finds himself embroiled in espionage when the German physicist no longer seems to recognize him.
Review:
Distinctly Hitchcockian thriller, even written by Ernest Lehman, and prefiguring a similar story setup in Torn Curtain, also with Newman. The Stockholm locations look superb, and Robson directs the muscular action with a good eye on pace and detail. Hitchcock, mind you, would never have shot it in 'scope.
