Witty fairytale for all ages, in which Goldman's screenplay presents us with traditional ingredients in modern idiom, as if it were the Pied Piper of Brooklyn or some such. Though it flags a little in the second half, the guest appearances are a delight, and Elwes and Patinkin a revelation.
