The Pervert's Guide to Ideology (2012)

£0.00

Country: GB/EIRE
Technical: col 136m
Director: Sophie Fiennes
Cast: Slavoj Zizek

Synopsis:

The oddly engaging Zizek lucidly explains how ideologies are encoded in the films we watch and in our political systems, and how we are willing participants in them.

Review:

At times too academic for its own good, this is nevertheless an enthralling lecture via film clips, starting with They Live and exploring the more or less neglected byways of film history. The mise-en-scène humorously places our guide inside both the costume and decor of the scenes under study, whether through digital trickery or meticulous reconstruction it is not always possible to say, but most hilariously as a rear passenger on the plane at the opening of Triumph of the Will. Unfortunately the takeaway is not quite as clear as it might have been, owing to a slightly fudged conclusion.
