The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)
Country: US
Technical: bw 113m
Director: Tay Garnett
Cast: Lana Turner, John Garfield, Cecil Kellaway
Synopsis:
A drifter stops at a roadside cafe, gets himself employed, sleeps with the wife and before long is helping her do away with the husband.
Review:
Good and bad: on the one hand the supporting cast and smart direction, smart just to get this past the censor at the time; on the other the music and some of the lines are dreadful. On the whole preferable to the American re-make, but the story is a long haul in any form.
