The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 140m
Director: Derek Cianfrance
Cast: Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, Bradley Cooper, Ben Mendelsohn, Ray Liotta, Bruce Greenwood

Synopsis:

A stunt rider discovers he has a baby son from a one-night stand and determines to provide for it - by robbing banks. When he meets his nemesis in the shape of a conscientious police officer, the story shifts focus, and we see the far-reaching effects of the incident.

Review:

What starts out as an 'other side of the tracks' tale of ne'er-do-well Gosling's existential struggle with fatherhood, suddenly wrongfoots us with a Psycho-like switcheroo. We then go through a police corruption thriller before finishing up with We Need to Talk about Kevin shenanigans of screwed up youth. It is in this last section of the movie that one fails to sustain interest, in spite of Cooper's superb portrayal of a conflicted public servant.
