The Pink Panther (1963)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: Technirama 113m
Director: Blake Edwards
Cast: David Niven, Peter Sellers, Capucine, Claudia Cardinale, Robert Wagner

Synopsis:

An eastern princess who has inherited a fabulous diamond known as the Pink Panther decamps to Italy and holidays in Cortina, whither are drawn the notorious Phantom jewel thief, his ne'er-do-well nephew and an Inspector of the Parisian Sûreté whose wife is the Phantom's accomplice.

Review:

This luxurious sex farce quickly became a phenomenon and spawned several sequels. Sellers's infamous accent is relatively low-key here and he is absent from many scenes to allow his co-stars to hop in and out of hotel rooms. But the Edwards sense of architecture in mise en scène is at its height in two sequences, the hotel suite and fancy dress pursuit, and Mancini's soundtrack was an instant hit.
